Growing fish at home in garden ponds is not entirely about fish farming, but rather it is more about re-cycle leftover food from the kitchen. These should not be treated as wastes and converting them into protein by growing fish is a beneficial practice.
Garden ponds at home are meant to be aesthetic, but with good design, they can be functional for the right purpose.
The pond water quality changes all the time and by adding more food into the pond for the fish can deteriorate the pond water quality. In response, the natural biological-chemical processes of the water system break down polluting nutrients from fish wastes and thus, clean up the water. This is the bio-filtration system that we applied in all our garden ponds as part of our pond design and management practices.
